PA PA PA WHAT!? Yup, like, raw placenta smoothie.

My good friend and acupuncturist, decided to get her placenta encapsulated. Since this process takes up to three days, she decided to save a small piece to consume right after birth. She was of course, exhausted after birth, and decided to eat the placenta in a smoothie right away. It gave an incredible boost of energy and “became of true believer of placenta medicine from then on”.

Below is a simple recipe for a yummy placenta smoothie my clients love. They say they can't taste anything but the fruit. As a postpartum Doula, I always suggest avoiding frozen foods postnatal, since it is best to have warming foods (soups. tea, ginger etc) the first few weeks after delivery. I suggest using fresh fruit since its not as cold. Its no biggy if you only have frozen fruit! Now is not a time to stress! ;-) Just have a nice cup of warm chamomile tea after.

Placenta Smoothie Recipe

2-3 inches of the fresh raw placenta

1 cup of chopped fresh pineapple

1/2 cup of strawberries (fresh or frozen)

handful of blueberries (fresh or frozen)

1 1/2 cups of coconut or almond milk

½ cup of OJ

Blend the above ingredients. Enjoy your smoothie!!
